Just when I was starting to get excited about Thanksgiving cooking...

Holy hell. This has got to be one of the worst-looking food items I've ever seen in my life:

This is gelatin, people. With cucumber, onions, and celery in it.

If you're thinking, "Damn, that sounds delish!" and are itching for the recipe, you can find it here.

And I don't know who the hell "Scott" is, but he should probably stop doing whip-its while cooking. Ew.

  1. And when I say it's one of the worst-looking food items I've ever seen, please note that I am a child of the early-80s "casserole era."

  2. You forgot to add that gelatin is made from ground up animal bones . . . http://www.snopes.com/food/ingredient/jello.asp

  3. Saundra,
Not to argue... if you can get past the visual reaction, I read the recipe, (As a cookbook author, I do that you know)and the flavor combination actually sounds sort of intriguing. if you set appearance aside long enough try it, it might actually taste okay. Having said that I recognize that I am an old Norwegian-American and I actually like vinegar as an ingredient, I'll admit that gelatin as a vehicle for a vegetable dish is a new one on me, but hey, I would want to actually taste before I condemn. If I was so inclined, I would actually make the dish and try it. I would have to really, really like it, before I would make it to share.

    Happy holiday cooking everyone!

  4. I don't think I could ever make it past the texture. Celery makes me gag, unless it's cooked properly: boiled to death in a stew. :)
